Weight Loss & Management Solutions

Obesity has become a global pandemic.

Weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight is a struggle for many people in the United States, Canada, and elsewhere in the world. The World Health Organization says that worldwide obesity has nearly tripled since 1975. In the United States, 71 percent of adults aged 20 and older are overweight.

Being overweight or obese can lead to a host of health problems, including high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. Being overweight can also contribute to the development of diabetes, a condition associated with high blood sugar levels.

Overweight or Obese? What is the Difference

The difference between being overweight and obese is a person’s body mass index (BMI), which is a measure of a person’s body fat based on his or her height and weight. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) considers a BMI of 18.5 – 24.9 as normal weight, 25 – 29.9 as overweight, and 30 or a bove as obese.

While BMI provides an estimated ratio of body fat to lean mass, it is not a direct measurement of excess body fat. For an accurate measurement of BMI and excess body fat, consult with a healthcare professional.

Losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight is essential for good health, but the modern diet and lifestyle make it difficult to lose weight and keep it off. Most people lead busy lives – going to work, taking care of a family and fulfilling other obligations take up so much time that people think that they do not have the time to exercise or eat right.

The good news is that there is time to make healthy choices, if you know about all of your options. Every Healthy Choice Counts is more than a weight loss program– it is an approach to living. Every Healthy Choice Counts features 22 modules that provide insightful information about nutrition, weight loss and lifestyle choices that help you lose weight and keep it off.
